Youth Programs

Our Sages taught: “Do not remain apart from the community. . . and acquire for yourself a friend.

Beth Shalom’s Youth Programs provide a variety of experiences for our youth, ranging from social to educational to religious. These experiences help them form friendships, develop a stronger Jewish identity, and learn about Jewish traditions and values and their relevance in their lives today.

Our high school youth group (grades 9-12) is advisor and student board led. The elected board members meet monthly to select and plan events, which include social gatherings, fundraisers and mitzvah projects. Typically there are 2-3 events per month with at least one including a religious component. BeShTy is a part of NFTY, the North American Federation of Temple Youth, a national Reform Jewish program for high school students. Sr. BeShTY membership allows members to attend NFTY events, which are regional events taking place in the mid-Atlantic US with other Jewish teens from the region. The Sr. BeShTy advisor chaperons all events with the help of volunteers from our community. Past events have included attending the NC State Fair, trick-or-treating for canned goods, Carolina Hurricanes games, and “the big end of year trip.” Sr BeShTy Registration

Beth Shalom offers an adult choir for post B’nei Mitzvah teens. The adult choir sings at High Holy Day Services and Shabbat Shira, as well as at other special services.  We are currently looking for motivated person to lead a Junior Choir which would perform at High Holy Days Services, Shabbat Services and other events throughout the year.  Teens may also contribute their musical talent by playing instruments at services.
