Hadashot from
Beth Shalom Religious school
Heidi Goldsobel: Director of Education
May started us off with the second and seventh grade Shabbat. It is
wonderful to watch the students as they have grown and matured during the
year. The second graders told us about
the Ten Commandments and Morah Andrea led them with a puppet show and song
about the ten Commandments.
Seventh Graders led our Family Service and speeches were given about the Torah, What I would tell a
Kindergartener about Religious school, and my favorite Jewish topic. Each
speech had a valuable lesson for each of us to hear. The seventh grade teachers, Sharon Lord,
Marshall Merims, Lynn Albert, and Ellen Dershowitz
worked diligently with these students and helped in shaping their positive learning
experience this year.
The Month continued with the 5th
Grade family education day. The theme was my Hebrew name. We discussed why we have names, what are
names mean, and the characteristics found in our children that were similar to
the person for which we were named. The students made beautiful posters and we
all had a nice learning experience together.
Lag B’Omer quickly approached, a holiday
full of picnics, learning, bonfires, and singing.
Mitzvah Day was May 17th. A wonderful job of
coordinating, contacting, and making this day successful was headed by Patty
Williams and the Social Action Committee.
We finished our year on May 31st
with pajama parties, movies, and more. I
hope that everyone has a fabulous summer and remember that Beth Shalom is here
during the summer. Camp is starting on
July 6th and services run during the summer
months. Come by say hello.
