Beth Shalom provides many social activities and opportunities to encourage members to become involved. Enjoying and connecting with a Jewish community strengthens one’s identity and makes Beth Shalom a warm, fun place that provides social as well as spiritual growth.
The mission of the Sisterhood of Beth Shalom is to promote a sense of Jewish community, fellowship and camaraderie among women in the synagogue. All women in the congregation are members of the Sisterhood. The group engages in a variety of activities to support and strengthen the Beth Shalom community. Sisterhood runs the temple gift shop and invitation sales and offers catering for B’nei Mitzvah and other events. We also sponsor diverse programs, including social, educational, and religious events like the popular Women’s Seder.
The Men’s Club is a social organization for men who join together in friendship and programs to benefit the Beth Shalom community and beyond. Through social activities and tzedakah, we encourage the growth of each individual as a vital and important member of our congregation. We meet for regular Sunday morning breakfast featuring guest speakers, lively discussions, fellowship, and great food. We host family activities that include sports, picnics, dinners, and more. The Men’s Club also supports our Beth Shalom community through volunteer efforts and fundraising. Our ongoing goal is to bring meaning into action as we encourage participation and involvement as the men of Beth Shalom.
Parties, Celebrations & Get-Togethers
Throughout the year, the Social Committee plans and organizes adult and family social events. Our annual events include the Beth Shalom Pool Party, the Annual Gala & Dance, the Purim Play & Celebration, and the Hanukkah Party. Other events have included a Superbowl Party, Talent Show, and movie nights. In recent years, Beth Shalom has worked with the Town of Cary in planning the Cary Jewish Festival in December. Get together with old friends and make new ones!
Beth Shalom provides many opportunities to engage adults in Jewish Learning. Join us for our Monday morning Tanakh Talks or our monthly Bagels & Talmud discussions. We also offer Adult Learning discussions on Sunday mornings with a variety of topics. New this year are our Wine, Women & Wonder series and our Torah on Tap talks. Wine, Women & Wonder is a women’s study group that delves into learning while enjoying each other’s company. Designed for specific age groups, Torah on Tap meet at a local bar where adults study text and discover how Judaism is relevant in their lives. For more detailed information about our Adult Learning opportunities, please click here.
Beth Shalom’s adult choir is open to all adults and post B’nei Mitzvah teens. The adult choir sings at High Holy Day Services and Shabbat Shira Services. In addition to the choir, individual members of Beth Shalom share their musical talents with the congregation at Shabbat Services and as cantorial soloists.
Duplicate Bridge Club
The Duplicate Bridge group meets monthly on the second Saturday of the month at 7:30 pm for cards, socializing, and food. Sometimes the group meets at Beth Shalom and sometimes in the home of a member. If you don’t have a partner, we will help you find one. Additional players are always welcome!
The Beth Shalom Morning Book Club meets on the first Friday of the month at 10:30 at Beth Shalom. All members are invited to attend and are encouraged to suggest books, which address Jewish themes. Both fiction and non-fiction titles are read and discussed. At each meeting, members decide on book choices. Genres have included historical fiction, current events, Jewish authors, history, and Jewish literature. Discussions are lively and informative and provide a welcoming social context.
